PVC Installation Method and Necessary Requirements
Installing Altro PVC panels (such as Altro Whiterock) requires precision and expertise. Greengrass has extensive experience, as they are not installed like ordinary panels, but rather as an integrated system that ensures cleanliness and water resistance. This installation is usually carried out by trained and certified Altro technicians to ensure warranty validation.
First: Altro Panel Installation Method (Step Summary)
The method relies on the use of special adhesives and a thermal welding system to achieve a joint-free surface.
1. Surface Preparation (Substrate Preparation) by Greengrass Installation Experts
Leveling: The wall must be smooth, sound, dry, and free of any contaminants. Any protrusions must be removed or low areas must be leveled.
Suitable Surfaces: Recommended surfaces include drywall, smooth concrete, and tightly installed old tiles (after cleaning and preparation).
Priming: Porous surfaces (such as gypsum) must be primed with a suitable primer to ensure the adhesive’s adhesion strength.
2. Panel preparation and route selection by Greengrass installation experts
Measuring and cutting: Panels are measured and cut precisely in a specialized workshop or on a flat table. The cut edges are smoothed to remove any impurities that might burn during welding.
Expansion gaps: An expansion gap (approximately 2-3 mm) must be left at all points of contact with solid elements (such as the floor, ceiling, window/door edges, and pipe outlets). These gaps are subsequently sealed with a sanitary silicone sealant provided by Greengrass installation experts.
Attaching a fixing tape: Apply double-sided tape or Altro foam tape vertically in the center of the joint where the two panels meet.
3. Applying the adhesive and fixing
Adhesive application: The recommended adhesive (such as AltroFix) is mechanically mixed and then applied to the back of the panel using a 5×5 mm notched trowel, leaving a 15-20 mm gap from the panel edges where the welding or jointing will be performed.
Panel Installation: Lift the panel and secure it to the wall, ensuring alignment with the reference lines. Press firmly onto the panel using a hand roller to ensure even distribution of the adhesive across the entire surface.
4. Hot Welding
Chamfering: If using a hot welding system (to achieve the highest level of cleanliness instead of pre-fabricated plastic joints), a slight chamfer (approximately 1.5-2 mm) should be applied to the edge of each panel to create a channel for the weld rod.
Welding: Using a special hot welding gun, a weld rod made of the same PVC material is inserted into the channel between the two panels.
Cutting and Leveling: After the weld bar has cooled, it is cut and leveled in two stages using a special trimming knife (such as a Mosart knife) to match the surface of the panel by Greengrass installation experts.
Second: Basic Installation Requirements and Standards
To ensure the efficient operation of the Altro system and to obtain a warranty, there are requirements that must be adhered to:
Summary of Altro PVC Panel Installation Instructions and Requirements
To ensure proper installation and product warranty, work must be performed by certified technicians trained at the Altro Academy. Greengrass has highly trained technicians who use correct thermal welding and installation techniques. It is essential to use only Altro system materials, including panels, adhesive, cleaning silicone, and specialized welding tools, and not to replace the adhesive with any other products.
Attention must be paid to expansion gaps around all fixed elements such as pipes, vents, and ceilings. A minimum of 2-3 mm of space is required. This space is necessary to allow the panel to expand and contract without distorting or separating. For hot or steam pipes passing through the panel, they must be insulated and a larger expansion gap of 3-5 mm must be left around them.
During installation, the room temperature and materials must be within the appropriate range (typically approximately 20°C to 29°C) to ensure proper operation of the adhesives and thermal expansion. Finally, to ensure a tight seal, all joints and unsealed connection points (such as ceiling and floor edges and around pipes) must be sealed with antibacterial sanitary silicone. Follow the instructions of Greengrass’ technical staff.
